About
My work is all original hand made prints such as etchings, linocuts, mono prints and wood cuts. There are no computer generated or giclee prints in my collection. I am constantly inspired by the local environment and my overseas travels to countries like Italy, India and Greece.
In January 2015 I held a successful exhibition in Minnamurra at the General Store Gallery and in early 2016 participated in an exhibition with other members of the Southern Printmakers Association at the Auburn Botanic Gardens, Sydney. Below is a review by Claire Brach of ‘Tactual Textiles’ about my aluminium etching ‘Palm Dates’ exhibited at the Auburn Botanic Gardens.
“Margot Rushton created a stunning piece entitled Palm Dates. The catalogue declares it as an aluminium etching...Margot has produced this wonderful small piece using a severely reduced colour palette and subtle colour changes throughout. I should have bought it.”
Some of my favourite works displayed at the Art Bar in November, 2016 are influenced by a recent trip to many areas in India experiencing the vibrant city cultures which contrast amazingly to the subtle and struggling cultures in remote country areas. This country inspires deep passion and respect for the people and I will create more works as time allows.
I continue to explore and play with other methods of printmaking such as reduction linocuts, mono printing and collagraphy. However, at the moment I would say that my primary interests are in traditional etching and waterless lithography with a focus on nature and animals.
I am involved in encouraging and promoting art in the Shellharbour region through my work with the Shellharbour City Arts Society and welcome visitors to my studio at Lake Illawarra, NSW.
