My creativity is how I communicate, from the tiny art pieces to the huge murals, they each have an aspect of singing, dancing and prayer that I hold inside me. Colour conveys mood weather its soft and calm or loud when I really want your attention. My works, no matter how big or small are created in layers sometimes for depth of colour and sometimes to partially hide a detail or only give a sneaky glimpse of something. I want you to look closely, to be surprised at what you find and to make your own meaning from what you find. I take time to create, I’m not concerned with the hours I put into a piece because while I’m creating, I’m immersed in the moment. I will use sweeping arm movements or intense hand gestures across my work and the greatest thrill is when I’ve spent hours deeply involved in the work and feel that only moments have passed. This is the prayer stage and I can’t put a price on any of that. ”This Is how I sing dance and pray.” I'm a full time artist from Shellharbour. I have family connections in the Newcastle area which recently drew me to a weeks residency at Nobbys Lighthouse. The residency inspired a new body of works on paper which features the creatures I encountered during the week and the colours sites and sounds of a coastal holiday! The Willy Wagtails flying in the air, spiders crawling in the bushes that line the path and what I imagine lives beyond the pier.

Gennifer will be collaborating with Rheannon Murray in the 'Ponder' exhibition, presented by the Artisan Collective Port Stephens for the month of July, 2022. Gennifer Anderson is an award winning artist, her mixed media works feature heavy layering and storytelling amongst aesthetically pleasing textures and colour forms. Her vibrant and unique artworks have been featured in print media, public displays, art shows, group exhibitions and numerous solo exhibitions across NSW. Gennifer’s works adorn the walls of the Shellharbour Hospital after being commissioned to create large scale artworks for the Ambulatory Care Centre, and are often seen as part of public display art installations around her home base of Wollongong and Shellharbour. Recently, Gennifer spent a week as an artist in residence at the Newcastle Lighthouse, where she laid the foundations for her works that will be part of this joint exhibition; PONDER. Gennifer has close ties with Port Stephens, spending time in the bay visiting her daughter and grandchildren who call Port Stephens home. Ponder is an open invitation to slow down and ponder about what inspires creativity and forging the time for mindful making. Rheannon and Gennifer both enjoy the therapeutic practice that art provides. Rheannon, more commonly known as Rhea, has been part of the Artisan Collective since opening the gallery doors at the d’Albora Marina location in 2016. Rhea is a creative at heart, and has always enjoyed the peace, relaxation and healing that creative practices provide. After successfully developing her skincare business Tahi and Rose Skinfood over the past 6 years, and co-founding the online art retail space; the Online Collective Port Stephens, during covid lockdowns, Rhea is taking a healing break from skincare production and enjoying creating artworks inspired by nature and expression.
