The South Coast is known for its natural beauty and vibrant creative community, yet local creatives often grapple with the unique challenges of pursuing our artistic passions in a regional area. Weave (previously known as the Weave Artists Directory) had long served as a valuable resource for the region and local creatives. Over time though, it became ‘just another directory,’ with outdated content, limited features, and frankly…just wasn’t what creatives really needed.
We had a rethink, evolving Weave beyond a directory focussed on individual exposure, shifting to building a local, digital community for creativity that could respond to the distances between towns and the expansive nature of our region and creative community.

Under the guidance and vision of South Coast Arts (SCA), Weave is now evolving into a dynamic, accessible, and community-centric platform. It’s a transformation that addresses the challenges of living and working in a regional (and dispersed) creative community by providing a central hub where creatives can showcase their work, discover and interact with other local artists, musicians, writers, designers, thinkers, makers, and doers.
Beyond enhancing visibility to build connections and collaborations
One of Weave’s core goals has always been to enhance the visibility of local creatives. By introducing community forums, discussion spaces, and event listings, Weave has become a more robust and engaging platform with features that help to spark new ideas and collaborations or connect individuals who can offer guidance and perspectives on creative processes—making the South Coast feel smaller, more connected, and inspired.

Our commitment to diversity and innovation ensures there’s always something new and exciting happening, keeping us inspired and encouraging us to push the boundaries of our creative practices in ways we might not have imagined. From seasoned professionals to enthusiastic beginners, every interaction can bring a new perspective and sense of belonging. We hope that this digital community extends beyond the purely online realm. Local meetups and events organised through Weave will provide much-needed space for face-to-face interactions across the region, strengthening bonds within our creative community.

Reflecting on where Weave was, and what it’s becoming, it’s also exciting to think about the future. We have plans to integrate learning opportunities, workshops, and broader connections. While specific initiatives will no doubt evolve over time, under SCA’s forward-thinking approach, our vision remains to make Weave a leading example of creativity, and a vital part of our region and community.
