About

I take regular field trips sketching Plein Aire or photographing, and then  develop these references into paintings in the studio. I paint in oils, mixed medium and watercolours where I often take a departure from the literal resulting in my work ranging from traditional to conceptual. My objective is to leave enough interprative space in my work to evoke a curiousity in the viewer .

Over the years of my practice my work has evolved. With its beginnings in the depiction of the quaint and traditional it has now developed into something that has a personal or political meaning.

For instance when I am inspired by the landscape and humankinds negative impact upon it, I highlight the natural landscape in juxtaposition with the altered landscape and aim for my work to be a catalyst for a dialogue about the environment.

When I am inspired by memory I use techniques and materials that evoke a sense of fragility.

When I am inspired by an emotion I explore that emotion through colour, texture and the materiality of paint, textiles or mixed mediums.

I have painted since my early teens and my committment to art has seen me follow through with formal training later in life. I am a painter who is graduating in BCA Honours in Vis/Arts in 2016 after completing an BCA undergraduate degree in 2015. I am also TAFE trained and have undertaken numerous masterclasses. This extensive study combined with an absolute passion to paint enables me to respond to a wide range of concepts through a of process of deep analysis. I often use techniques a that evoke a sense of real presence through the infusion of textural qualities in my work in particular my landscapes. My works are a personal reflection of my lived experiences.
