The Water Runners play a high energy blend of original, contemporary, Australian folk with bluegrass, country and roots influences and have played at venues and festivals, radio stations and Folk Clubs from Sydney to the Snowy, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Majors Creek and interstate.

Drawing on their cross-generational experiences and tastes, The Water Runners enjoy sharing stories, particularly local stories and they always engage with and involve their audiences. The band connects with young and old alike through their fine musicianship, tight harmonies and stage crafted performances.

Established in 2016, The band’s influences include Paul Kelly, The Morrisons, Mustard Courage and Crowded House.

From South Coast NSW (Dharawal Country), The Water Runners draw on the story-telling traditions of folk, bluegrass and country to play an exciting and contemporary blend of Australian music that incorporates rich storytelling, engaging melodies and heartfelt lyrics. They have won recognition for their unique sound and dynamic performances around Australia. An intergenerational band, they combine the experience of John Littrich (guitar, vocals) and Neil McCann (Banjo, mandolin) with the youth and talent of Danita Harris (violin, vocals) and James Turk (double bass). The Water Runners’ have an infectious energy, connecting and engaging with audiences through their music, story-telling and stage banter, leaving audiences with an experience they will carry with them long after the show is over. The band has won recognition for their talents through various song-writing awards, achieving ‘People’s Choice’ finalists in the 2021 Australian Folk Music Awards, and being awarded best band in the 2020 National Busking Championships. They made Top 10 in the ‘Australia’ Category of the 2024 Australian Songwriting Awards for their song ‘Murrumbidgee.’ In 2021 the band recorded their third album ‘Further Down the Road’ with award wining producer, Matt Fell. Songs from that album have been played on radio around Australia including the ABC’s Saturday Night Country program. In 2025, the band will head to the studio again to record with renowned producer, Syd Green (19-Twenty, Kasey Chambers).
